When Rep. Juanita Millender-McDonald, D-Calif., tragically passed away late last year, her family had a choice: They could ship her things back to her home in California, or liquidate them here in D.C.

They ultimately chose the latter, which is why whole closetfuls of her designer attire are being sold at the Second Affair consignment shop near Dupont Circle.

The executors of Millender-McDonald’s estate called proprietor Barbara Sanders “and asked a little bit about consignment,” she said. “I went [to the congresswoman’s home] on New Year’s Eve morning and worked there for about four hours.”

She found clothing by such designers as St. John, Christian Dior, Ellen Tracy and Albert Nippon.

“It’s very good stuff,” said Sanders. “Designer suits, dresses, handbags, jewelry and shoes.”

And it’s selling very well, she added.
