Rangers D Del Zotto has surgery to fix hernia

NEW YORK (AP) — Rangers defenseman Michael Del Zotto has undergone surgery Thursday to repair a sports hernia.

The 22-year-old Del Zotto is expected to recover in about four weeks from the operation that took place in Philadelphia.

Del Zotto had three goals and 18 assists in 46 games during the regular season. He led New York defensemen in points and assists, ranked third in goals, and was fourth on the team overall in assists.

He also tied for the team lead with eight power-play assists, and was fifth with eight power-play points. Del Zotto earned his 100th career NHL point with a short-handed goal on March 19 at New Jersey.

Del Zotto scored a goal in New York’s 5-0 win in Game 7 of the Rangers’ first-round series against Washington. He had two points overall in 12 postseason games.
