The “Lethal Weapon” and “Color Purple” star greeted commuters at the New Carrolton Metro stop along with candidate Donna Edwards, whom he’s backing in her Democratic primary rematch with Al Wynn, the incumbent. (Wynn narrowly defeated Edwards, then a political newcomer, in the 2006 primary.)
Glover told Yeas & Nays that he’s known Edwards for years, dating to when they both worked with the National Network to End Domestic Violence. Glover was in town all weekend for the inaugural BET Honors at the Warner Theatre, but he flew to Atlanta for the Trumpet Awards before coming back to D.C. to campaign with Edwards.
He told us he always jumps at the “chance to support innovative candidates with progressive ideals,” adding that Edwards will be a “passionate voice” as the “next congresswoman from the 4th District.”
She isn’t the only Edwards Glover has been supporting. The actor has made the campaign rounds with John Edwards, as he fights Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination.
He said he’ll support whoever the Democratic nominee is, but for now “I think the best person to lead the country is John Edwards.”
