At The Palm restaurant’s re-opening party last night in Washington, D.C., political strategiest James Carville had some rather eye-opening predictions for the 2008 presidential election.

“I still think there’s a 25 percent chance that [Al] Gore gets in,” said Carville. “I don’t think it’s too late.”

On the Republican side, Carville had to wonder why former Florida Governor Jeb Bush hasn’t jumped into the race yet. “On every level, that guy ought to be the Republican nominee,” said Carville. “None of the other guys are electableand Jeb’s got it all for Republicans. … I still think Jeb’s the GOP nominee.”

And, as for the rumors floated in the National Enquirer that John Edwards is having an affair, Carville said,  “Man, that would just be the dagger through the heart of a losing campaign.”
