Arianna non grata

Not at all inclined to avoid a fight — political or otherwise — Bill Bennett, the former drug czar and secretary of education, eagerly told an assembled crowd at the Family Research Council on Thursday that he can easily relate to the old Irish joke that when an Irishman sees a fight, he always asks, “Is this private or can I get in?”
Hawking his new book, “America: The Last Best Hope,” Bennett lambasted Arianna Huffington as someone whom he was glad to see leave the right wing for the left. “I prayed she would have a change of heart,” he said to chortles of laughter. “She’s one of those people you don’t want to see on your side.”
Bennett also did his best to butter up the Bush administration. Had it goofed? Not really, Bennett said. It’s just that it’s had a hard time with “communication.” And, as the ceremony came to a close, Bennett hoped aloud that we might all someday see the president carrying his latest book under his arm as he made one of his walks across the White House lawn toward Marine One.
