In a sea of sports shows that offer stats, highlights, angry hosts, angrier sports writers and, in general, the same-old same-old, I have found a program worth watching. “The Daily Line” (Monday-Friday at 6 p.m. on VERSUS) is well worth your time. The cast brings unique talent to the table and is pure sports gold.
Washington’s own Reese Waters, a stand-up comedian by night and sports analyst by day, is one of the reasons the show is an out-of-the-box hit. We talked Wednesday about his new show and his unabashed love for Washington sports teams.

Waters on his fellow round table members » We have a fun group of very talented people that each brings something different to the show. Liam McHugh is our host and keeps things moving. He is a gifted writer and anchor. Jenn Sterger is our new media person — who can not only talk sports, she also handles our Facebook and Twitter questions. And then we have Rob DeAngelis, who is a numbers expert on sports gaming, who can breakdown the odds on anything.
Waters on his role » Well, I bring comedy into the mix. I play off the other members of the show and it gives me a chance to use my sports knowledge with my humor. It is all about keeping things current, so I am writing comments all the way up to show time and then doing things on the fly when we hit the air. So it does keep me on my toes for the entire hour.
Waters on growing up in the D.C. area » I started my love affair with the Redskins at an early age and my family used to go games at RFK and cheer for the burgundy and gold. I am a fan of the Wizards — who have also given me some humor this season — and I am really becoming a big Caps fan. I also make sure everyone knows my love for D.C. sports — I don’t hide it on air.
Waters on his background » I grew up in Washington, lived in Prince George’s County, went to high school at St. Albans and then got my degree in economics from Columbia. But, from age 19, I worked comedy clubs in Washington and New York honing my craft.
It has worked well for Waters, who won the annual Caroline’s Comedy Competition in 2009 and is currently on Comedy Central’s “Live at Gotham.” For now, he will be doing comedy in New York and hitting the college circuit.
