Apparently getting back at your opponents by publicly releasing their kids’ medical and academic information is not only confined to Fairfax County School Board members. It seems to be the weapon of choice for
so-called educators everywhere.
I asked Dianna in Austin, TX (see her comments on “Fairfax School Board’s bullying problem” below) if any of the people who divulged her son’s information were punished in any way. Here’s her answer:

“No, they were not. Actually, the disclosures continue. As a result, I’ve
had to place my child in private school.
“The U.S. Dept of Ed in Washington, D.C. found against them and after the district appealed that decision, the U.S. DOE confirmed the adverse finding. But no consequences to the district at all.
“U.S. DOE continues to “process” more of my complaints (takes years and letters to my U.S. Congressman to get FPCO to move.) I am sure those complaints will be affirmed as well … and then so what? My child is growing older and has no access to public education, although we pay plenty of taxes.
” I am most concerned that the district’s private attorneys have profited
greatly by this … all funded by our tax dollars. Also, the attorneys take
the information from a disabled child’s case (access provided by district
because attorneys represent the public schools) and then place them in a newsletters and SELL (YES, you read that right) SELL our children’s
confidential information to hundreds of school districts across the state
for private profit. The newsletter (in our case) also landed in the hands
of the athletic football booster club president, who then distributed it by
email to our entire community.
” Right here in the United States of America. 4 years and counting since I
began this struggle. No money for an attorney and the school district has limitless funds (and time) to battle against children’s right and they do.
… Our children don’t have “time” … they are growing up and need an
appropriate, safe education. ”

This situation is even worse than I thought! I hope every parent in America sits up and takes note of what is happening to special ed kids right now in our nation’s public schools.
