Forward Eric Fehr was on the ice in a non-contact jersey for the first Capitals practice of training camp. Fehr had double shoulder surgery during the summer.
“It’s kind of just day-by-day. But I have a feeling it’s going to be about two weeks before I can start full contact,” Fehr said. “But it could change. I’m feeling pretty good right now. We’ll see how it goes.”
Fehr added that while he feels like he’s in good shape it’s still unclear if he will be ready for the Caps’ first game of the season on Oct. 1 against Boston. The 24-year-old had a career high 12 goals and 13 assists last season. But injuries have long been a concern. He played just 61 games in 2008-09.
“I definitely feel like I’m a little ahead of where I thought I was going to be. I’ve been working hard on my conditioning and doing a lot of rehab,” Fehr said. “So I feel great where I’m at right now. Hopefully that can continue.”
