Jerome Gary, the documentary filmmaker behind “Pumping Iron” and “Stripper,” is back again with a new series, “On the Road in America.” Gary joked at a screening Wednesday night that working with Arnold Schwarzenegger was great, “but it’s important to figure out where he is going and get out of the way!”

Gary said he aimed to tear down stereotypes with his film. “I like getting people out of cliches. Bodybuilders aren’t [gay] and strippers are women, too.” Gary is also responsible for helping the young careers of famous comedians including Steven Wright.

In “On the Road,” four Middle Eastern youth travel acrossAmerica to understand what the American people are really like. The movie will air on the Sundance channel.

This self-proclaimed California liberal wholeheartedly supports Barack Obama. “I’d kill to work with Barack. I love Barack. I haven’t been this excited since Kennedy.” He speculated that his next project may be related to the evils of outsourcing war or on new ways for American youth to participate in government service.
