Delta to resume flights to China this week

Delta Air Lines will resume flights to China on Thursday, the company announced on Monday.

The service will resume twice a week between Seattle and Shanghai Pudong International Airport via Seoul’s Incheon International Airport.

“We are excited to resume our services between the U.S. and China, as economic and social activities start to recover,” said Wong Hong, Delta’s president for greater China and Singapore, when announcing the flights.

The airline will sanitize all aircraft with electrostatic spraying before departure. There will also be extensive pre-flight disinfection of high-touch points throughout the aircraft interior.

The aircraft will also contain air circulation systems with high-efficiency particulate air filters that extract more than 99.99% of particles, including viruses, according to Delta.

All customers will be required to wear face coverings during travel, except during meal service. Complimentary face masks are available on request, and hand sanitizer will be provided at check-in counters and boarding areas.

Delta temporarily suspended all U.S. flights to China beginning Feb. 6 because of the coronavirus. The announcement to suspend travel to China came a day after the State Department advised people in the United States against traveling to China because of the public health threat the virus posed to travelers.
