Smile! You’re on Facebook

How’s this for a cruel twist of irony? In one of the most recent message posts to James Michael McHaney’s page on Facebook.com, a friend advises him to “Watch out for Larry Craig!”

Perhaps someone should have been watching out for McHaney. In the latest sex scandal to rock the Capitol, McHaney was fired Friday from the office of Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., after being arrested for allegedly setting up a meeting with an undercover witness posing online as a 13-year-old boy.

Also on his Facebook page, the Little Rock, Ark., native — who graduated in 2002 from Kenyon College with a political science degree — describes his political views as “liberal.”

His interests are “cooking, going out, drinking and politics,” he listens to techno and trance and his favorite TV show is “Housewives.”

Under “Politicians Mike McHaney supports,” he lists his boss, Sen. Cantwell.

According to official congressional records posted on the Web site Legistorm.com, McHaney earned $32,499.96 as director of scheduling in Cantwell’s office from October 2006 through March 2007, which would place his yearly salary at roughly $65,000.
