Sarah Sanders said Nancy Pelosi is sad this week for the wrong reasons.
Pelosi, the House speaker, told reporters before an expected vote on two articles of impeachment against President Trump on Wednesday that she was “sad” her caucus was undertaking such a serious political endeavor.
“She knows this Democrat scam is a generous in-kind contribution to President Trump and every Republican running against a Democrat in a Trump district,” Sanders, Trump’s former press secretary, said. “Too bad she’s too weak to stand up to the angry liberals in her party.”

During debate on the House floor, Democrats claimed it brings them no joy to begin the process of removing Trump from office, but the facts surrounding the impeachment proceedings are too damning to sit idly by.
Democrats are impeaching Trump on two articles: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The process centers on Trump’s relations with Ukraine and a July 25 phone call during which he pressured the president of Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden. An intelligence community whistleblower reported the incident, sparking the House investigation.
Republicans have discredited the effort as a “sham” and purely “partisan.”
“Don’t say this makes you sad when you’ve been wanting to do this for the last three years,” Georgia Republican Rep. Doug Collins said on the House floor.
Formal articles of impeachment are expected to pass the Democratic-controlled House this week, triggering a Senate impeachment trial that would begin early next year.
Since leaving the Trump administration, Sanders has spent time on conservative cable news defending the president and attacking Democrats.
