If Mitt Romney goes on to win Michigan, which now seems increasingly likely, a big reason will be his strength among senior citizens.
One out of every four voters in Michigan were seniors, according to CNN exit polls, and they went for Romney over Rick Santorum 48 percent to 31 percent. It was the only age group that Romney won.

Part of it may have to do with the fact that older voters may rember Romney’s father George, who served as governor from 1963 to 1969 (so a 65 year old would have been about 16 when he took office). But that may be an oversimplification, because older voters have been the strongest age group for Romney throughout the primary season. Either way, they clearly came through for him in Michigan.
