Nicholas Sandmann fires Lin Wood from legal team

Nicholas Sandmann has removed pro-Trump lawyer Lin Wood from his legal team.

The Covington Catholic High School graduate filed affidavits on Monday saying he no longer wanted to be represented by Wood.

“I have ended my lawyer-client relationship with Mr. Wood and no longer wish to be represented by him in the above-captioned action,” he said.

The notices were filed in each of the six lawsuits Sandmann submitted against various media companies over the way he was portrayed after an interaction he and his classmates had with a Native American man in front of the Lincoln Memorial in 2019. The group of students was in Washington for the March for Life.

The removal comes weeks after Sandmann appeared to disapprove of one of Wood’s social media posts.

On Jan. 1, Wood posted on Twitter, “If Pence is arrested, [Secretary Pompeo] will save the election. Pence will be in jail awaiting trial for treason. He will face execution by firing squad.”

Sandmann responded, “I’m sorry but what the hell.”

Wood has defended his tweet about the former vice president, saying he engaged in “rhetorical hyperbole.”

Todd McMurtry, Sandmann’s attorney, declined to comment on the matter to the Cincinnati Enquirer, but Wood told the outlet, “I love Nicholas Sandmann, and I wish him the very best going forward.”

Following the November election, Wood was involved in the effort to question its results, filing a number of lawsuits that made allegations of widespread election fraud. After he posted the tweet about former Vice President Mike Pence, the Trump team distanced itself from him.

“I do not support the statements from Attorney Lin Wood. I support the rule of law and the U.S. Constitution,” Trump campaign attorney Jenna Ellis said in a tweet.

Wood’s Twitter account has been permanently suspended.
