Former President Bill Clinton is uninterested in discussing Donald Trump’s antics, a point he reiterated Thursday while stumping for his wife, Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton, in Iowa.
“I have no interest in getting involved in [GOP] politics or doing anything except working to help Hillary,” Clinton reportedly told members of the press during a campaign stop in Cedar Rapids.
“Donald Trump says a lot of things,” he added, attempting to block further questions about the Republican front-runner’s recent attacks.
Clinton’s reaction to Trump — or lack thereof — came hours after the Republican front-runner amplified his most recent line of attack against the former president’s sexual indiscretions and his wife’s treatment of women.
In a video posted to Instagram Thursday, Trump cast soundbites of the former secretary of state defending her status as a champion of women while images of her husband and former White House intern Monica Lewinsky played onscreen. The video also incorporated photographs of Clinton with Bill Cosby, who was recently charged with felony sexual assault, and former Democratic New York Congressman Anthony Weiner, the subject of a viral 2011 sex scandal.
Prior to posting the video, Trump told an Iowa-based radio station he could “certainly tone it down” when it comes to his attacks against the Clintons.
“I understand exactly what they’re saying,” Trump said, referring to a group of Republican women who’ve expressed concerns that his recent attacks against the Bill Clinton might make voters more sympathetic to his wife.
“But I was attacked and I said: ‘How can they attack me when he’s got one of the worst records in history with all he’s gone through?'” the billionaire noted. “So I hit him pretty hard and maybe they won’t be attacking me anymore because, you know, I am somebody that has great respect for women and I’ll do a great job, far better for women than Hillary will ever do for women.”
