Three-time Oscar nominee Sigourney Weaver looks like she’s heading to the small screen, starring in Greg Berlanti and Laurence Mark’s USA Network six-hour series, “Political Animals.” Weaver will play Elaine Barrish, a former first lady and newly appointed secretary of state who’s dealing with fallout from her recent divorce and a failed presidential run. “Happy Endings” star James Wolk will play Barrish’s son, Doug, an ambitious young politico who also serves as Elaine’s chief of staff. The network is just one of many channels pushing politically-themed projects this season — like HBO’s vice presidential comedy “Veep” and NBC’s “1600 Penn.” And Weaver herself is just one of several feature stars that have moved to television recently, like Kevin Bacon, who’s starring in a new serial killer drama on Fox, and Mira Sorvino, now on CBS’ “Trooper.”
