Senate Intelligence seeking out Moscow-based Trump associate

The Senate Intelligence Committee wants to interview a Moscow-based Trump associate.

The committee, chaired by Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., is interested in meeting with David Geovanis over his ties with President Trump, sources told CNN. Geovanis’ relationship with Trump came up when two witnesses were giving information to the committee as part of a broader investigation last year.

Geovanis reportedly worked with Trump to organize a trip to Moscow in 1996 amid talks of building a Trump Tower in there.

Geovanis also worked for Oleg Deripaska, a multi-billionaire Russian oligarch in the energy and agriculture business in Russia. Deripaska is reported to have close ties former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, who is facing the possibility of life in prison for financial crimes.

Senate Intelligence Committee investigators have been looking into Russian interference in the U.S. elections and any possible ties Trump has with Russia. The panel commissioned a report in the last Congress that found Russian agents using social media platforms to sow division and actively support Trump’s candidacy.

The committee did not return a request by the Washington Examiner for comment.
