Rand Paul to run ads on CNN throughout GOP debate

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul has a plan to make sure he gets more face-time during Wednesday’s GOP presidential debate on CNN — he plans to bombard the commercial breaks with campaign ads. The ad, which the Paul campaign shared with reporters in advance of its release, features Paul showcasing his desire to implement a flat tax, enact term limits “for everybody,” and cut spending.

“I ran for office because no matter which party is in power, government and debt continue to grow,” Paul says in the ad. “As president, I’ll make government smaller.”

The ad closes with Paul saying “I approve this message because America needs a real conservative,” in a not-so-subtle shot at Republican front-runner Donald Trump. In an interview with CNN on Tuesday, Paul said he “absolutely” did not go hard enough at Trump during the first nationally televised presidential debate and added “I will make sure everybody in this country knows he’s a fake conservative.”

Paul finished last in talk time among the GOP presidential candidates on the primetime stage in August. He appears dedicated to making that change on Wednesday.
