Trump says first lady tested negative for coronavirus

President Trump revealed that first lady Melania Trump tested negative for the coronavirus.

During a Monday White House press conference, Trump responded in the affirmative to a question on whether the first lady had been tested for COVID-19 yet.

“She’s great. She’s fine,” he continued, adding that she tested negative when he was asked.

Over a week ago, the president revealed he had taken the coronavirus test after declaring a national emergency to strengthen executive powers to combat the spread of the virus. He told reporters that he decided to take the test in response to a previous press conference.

“By the way, I had my temperature taken coming into the room,” Trump prefaced his statement to reporters. “I also took the test last night. And I decided I should based on the press conference yesterday.”

According to a memo issued by the White House Physician’s Office, the president tested negative for COVID-19. Both Vice President Mike Pence and second lady Karen Pence have also tested negative.

COVID-19 cases have appeared on every continent except Antarctica. Nearly 372,500 people have tested positive for the coronavirus around the world, and at least 16,000 have died from it. In the United States, more than 41,700 people have the coronavirus, leading to at least 573 deaths.

The World Health Organization declared the coronavirus a global pandemic nearly two weeks ago. More than 100,000 people worldwide have recovered from the illness.
