A 22-year-old Washington man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison in the 2010 slaying of a teenager in Northwest D.C., federal officials said.
Jeremy Risper was convicted in March and sentenced Friday on charges of first-degree murder while armed and other weapons offenses.
Risper and a co-defendent, Kwan Kearney, 21, got into a fight with Jamal Wilson, 19, in November 2010, authorities said. Kearney had been in a fight earlier that night and Wilson had refused to help him. In retaliation, Kearney and Risper chased Wilson for several blocks before engaging in a shoot-out on P Street NW. Though Kearney fired the fatal shot, Risper, who authorities say had no part in the dispute but armed himself and joined Kearney in pursuing Wilson anyway, was also charged with murder.
Kearney was sentenced in June to 45 years in prison. In 2011, he was sentenced to 60 years in prison on a separate first-degree murder charge stemming from the killing of 17-year-old Joseph Sharps Jr. in Northeast — which took place just six days before he shot Wilson.
