Former Rep. Steve King, who lost his seat in a GOP primary after Republican leaders stripped him of his House committee assignments, called out House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy for going easy on Trump critic Liz Cheney.
“Kevin, Does Liz Cheney still have her committee assignments?” King asked McCarthy on Twitter.
Cheney rebelled against House GOP leaders by accepting an appointment by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to fill one of the Democratic seats on a special committee created to investigate the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol.

While McCarthy vaguely warned GOP lawmakers against accepting appointments from a Democratic speaker, the California Republican hasn’t taken any direct action to remove Cheney from the Armed Services Committee.
King pointed out that Cheney was among just a few Republicans who voted to impeach then-President Donald Trump on charges of inciting the riot, for which she was censured by the Wyoming GOP.
“She’s 100% wrong & you are 100% hypocrite,” King accused McCarthy on Twitter.

Republicans in 2019 removed King from his two assignments on the Judiciary and Agriculture committees after he questioned calling “white supremacist” an offensive term in a New York Times interview. Republican leaders isolated King and suggested he leave Congress. King had made other statements in years past that were considered offensive concerning illegal immigrants.
King, who had served in Congress for 18 years, lost the Republican primary in 2020 after opponent Randy Feenstra labeled him ineffective.
