The Iowa State Fair “Cast Your Kernel” poll was a 50/50 split between kernels cast among Republican and Democratic candidates, which is the closest split in the poll’s history.
Fairgoers cast 33,280 kernels for Republican candidates and 33,165 for Democratic candidates, WHO-TV reported.
The unscientific poll, which calls for fair attendees to place a kernel into the corresponding jar of their favorite candidate, ended Monday morning with over 66,000 kernels cast.
Former Vice President Joe Biden was declared the winner among primary Democratic presidential candidates with 25% support.
Just one week ago, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren were tied for second with 16%.
However, the Indiana Democrat pulled ahead of Warren with 18% and Warren moved down to 15%. California Sen. Kamala Harris remained in third with 11%, while Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders slotted into fourth place with 8%.
On the Republican side, President Trump received 97% support, and former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld received 3%.
