Gingrich: Bushes behaving ‘childishly’ by skipping convention

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Monday morning that the Bush family is behaving “childishly” by deciding to skip the GOP convention in Cleveland, to protest Donald Trump’s nomination.

“The Bushes are behaving, I think, childishly,” Gingrich said on ABC News. “Jeb lost. Get over it.”

“The fact is, this Republican Party has been awfully good to the Bushes, and they’re showing remarkably little gratitude,” he added.

Several key Republicans won’t be in Cleveland this week, including President George W. Bush, and his brother Jeb, who got bounced out of the GOP primaries relatively early.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich also won’t be there, and neither will Mitt Romney, the GOP nominee four years ago. Gingrich also blasted Romney for ditching out on the GOP that he tried to lead just a few years ago.

“As long as we were supporting him, Mitt Romney was really happy,” Gingrich said.

Gingrich was in the running to be Trump’s running mate, but was passed over for Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.
