Advocates in Virginia have launched a letter-writing campaign directed at Gov. Bob McDonnell over a measure passed by the state legislature this year that would tighten restrictions on abortion clinics in the state.
From the AP:
The letter-writing campaign was organized by Katherine B. Waddell, a former member of the General Assembly representing parts of Richmond and Chesterfield County. She said the first round of letters totaling 100 names was delivered Tuesday to Richmond.
The letters contend that the abortion clinic regulations are not about women’s health and safety, but “an ideological agenda gone to the extreme.”

The new regulations requiring clinics that perform five or more first-trimester abortions to meet hospital-like regulations are set to be implemented by Jan. 1, under a timetable presented to the state Board of Health.
A McDonnell spokesman said Wednesday that the governor is still reviewing the measure.
