A 13-year-old in London died after testing positive for the coronavirus.
Kings College Hospital announced the death on Tuesday, writing, “Sadly, a 13-year old boy who tested positive for COVID-19 has passed away, and our thoughts and condolences are with the family at this time.”
“The death has been referred to the coroner and no further comment will be made,” the hospital added in a statement.
Coronavirus has largely left children unaffected, but some young people with underlying health conditions have contracted fatal cases of COVID-19. On Sunday, New York City announced its first death of a minor since its outbreak began. Most coronavirus deaths have been in individuals over the age of 65.
U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who is currently battling coronavirus himself, announced a nationwide stay-at-home order last week. As of Tuesday, the United Kingdom had more than 25,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and nearly 1,800 related deaths.
