Prince George’s County Police have identified a suspect in a stabbing connected to an officer-involved shooting.

Authorities have obtained a warrant for 23-year-old Joseph Halsey, of District Heights, that charges him with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment in connection with the stabbing.

About 3 a.m. Thursday, officers went to 3107 Good Hope Avenue and found Halsey leaving the scene. He ran from officers, hid behind a parked car, reappeared and acted in a bizarre manner, police said. He threw himself on the ground and acted like he was pulling a gun from his waistband when officers approached him, police said.

Because officers believed Halsey had a gun, one of the officers discharged her service weapon, although the suspect wasn’t hit, police said. He was taken into custody and said he wished police had killed him so he didn’t have to go back to jail.

Halsey was found to have stabbed a man multiple times inside the man’s apartment. The victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition, and Halsey and the victim knew each other, police said.

The officer who used her weapon is a 5-year veteran assigned to the Bureau of Patrol. She was placed on administrative leave, which is standard department procedure.
