Woman found in burned-out Bowie house was shot to death, police confirm

Prince George’s County police officially said Thursday that Vilma Butler, 46, died of a gunshot wound before the second floor of her Bowie home was engulfed by flames, as first reported by The Examiner. Her badly burned body was pulled from the second-floor master bedroom after firefighters extinguished the blaze. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Lanham man fatally shot during visit with relative

Mario Enrique Aroyo-Granjales, 24, of Lanham was shot and killed around 1:45 a.m. Thursday in what Prince George’s County police said they believe was an attempted robbery. Aroyo-Granjales was visiting a relative on the 3500 block of Hubbard Road in Hyattsville when he went outside to get something out of his car and the suspect, who fled in a green minivan, shot him. Gaithersburg man charged with murder in trail shooting

Anton Powell, 20, of Gaithersburg, was charged Saturday with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a Silver Spring man on a popular Germantown hiking trail, Montgomery County police said Thursday. A jogger discovered Rakeimi Jabari Hardin Jr.’s body around 8:20 a.m. June 20. Powell is being held without bail. Anyone with information is asked to call 240-773-5070. – Freeman Klopott

Robbery targets worker at McDonald’s drive-through

A 17-year-old boy working at a McDonald’s drive-through was robbed at gunpoint late Wednesday night, Fairfax County police said.

The suspect, dressed in all black, approached the window of the Richmond Highway restaurant, pointed the gun at the boy and demanded money, afterward running away. He is described as about 5-foot-10 and weighing 160 pounds, according to a news release. Anyone with information is asked to call 866-411-8477. – William C. Flook
