The man suspected of slashing women’s buttocks in Fairfax County shopping malls last year has been arrested in Peru, Fairfax County officials confirmed Saturday. Police said 40-year-old Johnny Guillen Pimental is in Peruvian police custody, and officials in the U.S. are now working to extradite him, Fairfax County spokesman Jeff Schaney said. It is unknown how long that will take.

“There is a lot of paperwork involved for Fairfax County police, and it’s just starting the process of working with federal authorities and international authorities,” police spokeswoman Shelley Broderick said in a statement.

Guillen Pimental is suspected in a series of at least nine bizarre butt slashings that took place in retail stores last year between February and July. The victims were all young women in their teens or 20s; police said someone used a box cutter or razor to slash them.

One woman received a 1.5 inch gash July 25 at the Forever 21 store in Fair Oaks mall. The 18-year-old shopper noticed clothes that had fallen off of a rack behind her and saw a man bending down to pick them up, according to Fairfax police. She then felt a sharp pain and thought that one of the hangars had struck her before realizing her denim shorts had been slashed and her buttocks were bleeding.
