Trump cancels Miami campaign event with Christie

Donald Trump has canceled his planned campaign stop in Miami on Friday with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie in the wake of the mass shooting in Dallas that left five police officers dead.

The duo were to travel to Miami-Dade County, the only area Trump lost in Florida’s March 15 primary, where the presumptive Republican presidential nominee was set to deliver a speech about “succeeding together.”

Trump, whose last visit to Miami was in October, was going to meet with local politicians and Hispanic community leaders at an iconic restaurant in Little Havana ahead of his speech, according to the Miami Herald.

Christie was the first of Trump’s GOP primary opponents to endorse him and has defended the billionaire through many of the controversies he’s stirred since entering the general election. The two-term governor is one of 10 individuals reportedly being vetted by the Trump campaign.

This week, Trump invited Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker, who has since taken himself out of the vice presidential running, to campaign with him in North Carolina. On Wednesday, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich joined the billionaire on the campaign trail in Ohio.

Trump is expected to announce his running mate shortly before Republicans convene in Cleveland on July 18 for their national convention.
