Secret Service arrest White House contractor wanted for attempted first-degree murder

Secret Service agents reportedly arrested a 29-year-old man outside the White House Tuesday on an attempted murder warrant.

According to CBS, White House contractor Martese Edwards was wanted for attempted first-degree murder in Prince George’s County, Md. He was arrested when he showed up for work Tuesday morning.

The Secret Service was notified of Edward’s warrant Monday night, but NBC News’ Geoff Bennett notes that the warrant was filed in mid-May.

“On June 4, 2018, the U.S. Secret Service was notified by the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) that Martese Edwards was the subject of a warrant issued out of Prince Georges County, MD,” the Secret Service said in a statement following Edwards’ arrest. “On June 5, 2018, Edwards was promptly arrested by Secret Service Uniformed Division Officers at a checkpoint outside of the White House complex when he was reporting to work as a contractor.”

Secret Service added that Edwards had been transported to MPD Second District for processing.

The White House did not immediately respond to the Washington Examiner’s inquiries on the role Edwards held.
