Australia was shocked when several children were killed while playing in a bouncy castle.
Five children were killed and four were injured after a wind gust picked up a bouncy castle in Australia and dropped it 30 feet.
“A wind gust had reportedly caused the jumping castle and inflatable balls to lift into the air,” said Tasmanian Police Commissioner Darren Hine in a press conference. “Our hearts are breaking for the families and the loved ones, schoolmates, teachers of these young people who were taken too soon.”
The children were not identified, but authorities stated that those harmed were between 10 and 12.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison described the incident as “unthinkably heartbreaking.”
“Young children on a fun day out … and it turns to such horrific tragedy. At this time of the year, it just breaks your heart,” he said.
Paramedics arrived quickly after the incident, around 10 a.m. local time. Officials report that four children were declared dead, while a fifth child died in a hospital.
Parents were immediately alerted to the incident and urged to collect their children from the school due to an early closure, reports ABC. The school had rented the bouncy castle to celebrate the students’ last day of the school year.

Bouncy castle-related fatalities are rare but not new. Two children were killed and 20 were injured in 2019 after a “dust devil” in China lifted a bouncy castle into the sky.
A young girl was killed in 2018 in the United Kingdom when an inflatable trampoline collapsed, tossing her across the beach.
