Federal authorities say a man accused of fatally shooting 7-year-old Jaslyn Adams outside a Chicago McDonald’s on April 18 fled Illinois to avoid prosecution, newly unsealed court documents show.
A criminal complaint filed on April 29 that was unsealed on Wednesday revealed that authorities are searching for 21-year-old Devontay Anderson in connection with the shooting of Adams and her father. An arrest warrant was issued for Anderson on April 26 after he was charged with first-degree murder, though authorities have not been able to locate and arrest him.
The complaint also says that beginning on April 26, police received a GPS notification from a Facebook account associated with Anderson, placing his potential location in Miami, Florida.

Prosecutors filed a motion in U.S. District Court on Wednesday, asking that the case be unsealed as “the Federal Bureau of Investigation is seeking the public’s assistance in locating [Anderson].”
“There is no longer reason to believe that knowledge of the contents of these documents will jeopardize the integrity of this investigation,” U.S. Magistrate Judge Sheila Finnegan said in an order unsealing the case on Wednesday.
The criminal complaint details the April 18 shooting, explaining that officers responded to the McDonald’s and found an Infiniti sedan “riddled with bullets” in the drive-thru lane, in which Jaslyn’s father, 28-year-old Jontae Adams, was discovered to have suffered one gunshot wound to the back. Jaslyn suffered from three gunshot wounds. She was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
“[The Chicago Police Department] watched surveillance video which showed the Infiniti in the McDonald’s drive-thru when a 2017 Audi S8, with three occupants, pulled behind it,” the complaint said. “Two adult males then exited the Audi. One male, later identified by CPD as Anderson, exited the rear passenger side of the Audi brandishing a Draco AK-47 pistol.”
“The other male exited the Audi from the front passenger seat brandishing a Glock pistol,” the complaint continues. “Both men opened fire on the Infiniti, firing dozens of rounds before reentering the Audi and leaving the scene.”
Authorities have charged two others, Demond Goudy and Marion Lewis, in connection with the shooting, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
The complaint also said that police found an Instagram video on one of the co-offender’s accounts linking Anderson to the shooting.
Prosecutors previously asked the court to seal the case, arguing that publicly filing the criminal complaint, affidavit, and arrest warrant “before the arrest warrant can be executed could alert the defendant and result in his flight and the destruction of evidence.”
