MCGRAW, N.Y. (AP) — State police are trying to determine what caused a flatbed truck to crash into two pedestrians along a central New York street, killing an 80-year-old and injuring a 24-year-old man.

Troopers say a 29-year-old man from Cincinnatus was driving the truck on state Route 41 Monday afternoon when it suddenly jumped the curb in the Cortland County village of McGraw, 30 miles south of Syracuse.

The vehicle hit Oniel Lang of McGraw and David Tobias of Cincinnatus as they walked along the road.

Lang was taken to nearby Cortland Regional Medical Center, then Upstate University Hospital, where he was thereafter pronounced dead.

Tobias was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
