State Department officials discovered just one previously undisclosed email related to Benghazi among the roughly 15,000 emails recovered from Hillary Clinton’s server by the FBI.
Although the agency had identified 30 Benghazi-related emails in the batch of FBI documents, a spokesman said Wednesday that nearly all of those records were copies of emails Clinton already turned over to the State Department.
Mark Toner, an agency spokesman, said the one new email was sent to top Clinton aide Cheryl Mills from former ambassador to Brazil Tom Shannon in which he was “complimenting Secretary Clinton on her January 2013 Hill testimony.” Mills forwarded the message to her boss.
Clinton testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee about the Benghazi attacks in Jan. 2013.
“The email does not change the facts that have previously been made clear about the Benghazi attacks,” Toner said in a statement provided to the Washington Examiner.
Clinton’s discussions of Benghazi had been requested by conservative-leaning Judicial Watch in a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the State Department.
The new email was first reported by CNN.
