The accident happened at around 4 a.m. Saturday in Setauket.
Suffolk County police say 23-year-old Lawrence Pagano, of Coram, called 911 after his car struck 21-year-old Krystal Berkowitz.

Police say Pagano pulled over to talk to Berkowitz and his vehicle hit her.
Berkowitz, of Stony Brook, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pagano was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
