A White House press conference was abruptly stopped, and President Trump was removed by Secret Service after shots were fired near the White House.
Trump was pulled from the room soon after the Monday news conference began. The president returned to the room shortly after and told reporters that law enforcement had shot someone outside the White House. It isn’t clear why the person was shot or what their condition is, but the Secret Service confirmed a “an officer involved shooting at 17th Street and Pennsylvania Ave.”

“It was outside of the White House. Somebody was taken to the hospital. It was the suspect who was shot,” Trump said.
The president said the situation is now “under control” and unfolded “near the fence, but outside the premises.”
Trump said he was not taken to the White House bunker but rather pulled into the Oval Office during the incident. Reporters at the news conference reported that Secret Service locked the doors of the briefing room after pulling the president out.
The Washington Examiner has reached out to the White House and Secret Service for comment.
