NYTimes is a shining beacon of optimism

Everything is fine, people. Nothing to see here. Now move along. After all, the New York Times reports: “U.S. Economy Lost Only 11,000 Jobs in November.”

It gets better. The lede:

In the strongest employment report since the recession began nearly two years ago, the government said Friday that the nation’s employers had all but stopped shedding jobs in November, taking some of the pressure off of President Obama to come up with a wide-ranging jobs creation program.

No doubt that pressure is off. Everything is fine people. Nothing to see here. After all:

The last time the number was so bright was in December 2007, when the economy added 120,000 jobs.

To the Times reporter, losing 11,000 jobs comes a close second in “brightness” to gaining 120,000 jobs. Fine, these are troubled times we live in, but let’s not say this story is a bright light in a sea of darkness. After all, things might have looked up in December 2007, but we still wound up, well, here.
