A Democratic lawmaker will try again to force a vote on impeachment after President Trump told a group of minority congresswomen to “go back” to the countries they came from.
Texas Rep. Al Green said Monday he would force a vote “this month” in response to Trump’s attacks on the group of liberal congresswomen that includes Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan.
I will again, this month, bring impeachment to a vote on the Floor of the U.S. House of Representatives for bigotry in policy, harmful to our society. #RacistPresident #ImpeachNow https://t.co/NvDPm23kt9

“I’m 71 years of age. I lived through the era of ‘go back to Africa.’ I had people tell me, ‘Go back to Africa. If you don’t like America, leave America. Go back to Africa.’ I wasn’t born in Africa. I was born in Louisiana and I plan to stay here. I believe that those who desire to stay should be able to stay and be critical of any aspect of the country that they so choose to criticize,” he said during a news conference. “This is what free speech is all about.”
Green, who was among the first to call for Trump’s impeachment in 2017, has been unsuccessful in his two previous attempts after his impeachment articles failed to secure enough support.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has resisted an impeachment inquiry, believing it could harm Democrats in the 2020 election.
