A Howard County youth remained in critical condition Wednesday after nearly drowning a day earlier at a local pool.

Lifeguards pulled Darren Powell, 5, out of the water Tuesday at Columbia’s Bryant Woods pool after noticing the child was not breathing. He was later taken to the Children’s National Medical center in D.C.
