Donald Trump’s campaign chief grew increasingly frustrated during a post-debate interview Monday night, accusing CNN’s Jim Acosta of asking pointless questions and making a bigger deal than need be about the Republican nominee’s birther past.
“I thought [NBC News’] Lester Holt did a great job as the moderator under tough circumstances, meaning that you just have a worldwide audience of many and the clash of the Titans before you on the stage,” Kellyanne Conway told Acosta, who continued to press her on Holt’s performance.
“I already said that he did a good job so I don’t need to repeat that,” she answered curtly. “However, I’m glad that Mr. Trump raised her emails because it wasn’t being raised otherwise and Mr. Trump was cross-examined on a few points perhaps where Mrs. Clinton was not.”
Acosta then asked Conway about Trump’s recent decision to put to rest the doubts he once held about President Obama’s birthplace, noting that the candidate spent a mere 39 seconds addressing the issue at a recent press conference.
“The fact that CNN carried the press conference live and thought that it was going to be something that it was not is not Donald Trump’s fault,” Conway shot back. “Nobody said he was going to spend anything more than the 39 seconds he did on it — you guys just made that up.”
