Democrats’ grim prognosis on GOP health bill: ‘People will die’

Democrats are making the dire prediction that passing the Republican healthcare bill into law would result in the death of thousands of people around the country.

“People are gonna lose their lives, people are gonna lose their health coverage,” Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe said on CNN Friday morning. “And these people think it’s a party? They think this is something fun? There’s nothing fun about it.”

“People will die if this becomes [the] law of the land,” he added.

Democrats were left fuming about the House vote on Thursday to pass the long-negotiated GOP bill, and send it to the Senate. It just barely passed in a 217-213 vote, and after other Democrats issues similar warnings that people would die if it became law.

On Thursday, Rep. David Cicilline, D-R.I., made a similar prediction on the House floor just before the vote.

Tens of thousands of Americans will die if this bill passes,” he said. “That’s a fact.”

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., also predicted mass deaths for people if the bill became law.

“This isn’t football. It’s not about scoring points. #AHCA will devastate Americans’ healthcare. Families will go bankrupt. People will die,” she tweeted.
