A Landover man pleaded guilty Tuesday to carjacking a minivan at the Children’s National Medical Center with a 4-year-old-girl still buckled in the back seat.
Deandre Robinson, 20, faces between seven and 21 years in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.
According to court documents, on the night of Feb. 9, Robinson approached a woman as she got out of her minivan in a garage of the children’s hospital and demanded her keys.
After a brief struggle, Robinson took the keys. The woman yelled that her child was still in the minivan, but Robinson jumped into the driver’s seat and drove off, nearly hitting the mother, prosecutors said. Robinson drove to a nearby apartment complex, took the girl out of the minivan and left her by another parked car and drove off.
