A fugitive who was on the run for allegedly shooting a Massachusetts state trooper is dead, and two U.S. marshals were injured during a gunfight in New York City.

The Friday morning violence exploded in the Bronx when three deputy marshals were fired upon at about 5:30 after they entered a residence where they believed the fugitive was located. A second man reportedly answered the door and invited law enforcement inside before 35-year-old Andre Sterling opened fire. The marshals fired back, fatally shooting Sterling, according to the Associated Press.
