A sleepy Severn community awoke to screams Monday as a man rammed his sport utility vehicle into his ex-wife’s house, then ran over her current husband with the car before beating him with a fence post and stabbing him on the front lawn, Anne Arundel police said.
Horace Kennerly Jr., 35, of Laurel, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and assault in the attack in the 1800 block of Watch House Circle North in the Wesley Woods community, police said.

Neighbors said they awoke about 6:30 a.m. and called police after hearing shouting, followed by screeching tires and a loud crash.
The splintered remnants of a white picket fence were scattered Monday afternoon across the front lawn where Kennerly is accused of driving his SUV through the fence and then running over his ex-wife’s current husband with the car, police said.
He also struck his 26-year-old ex-wife with the vehicle, before ramming it into the side of her residence, police said.
Kennerly beat the husband with a broken fence post, and then stabbed the man multiple times with a knife before fleeing, police said.
A neighbor said she had never seen anything like this before and described the community as quiet.
“When you hear screaming and commotion like that, it’s unnerving,” said the woman who has lived in the neighborhood for nearly a decade but declined to give her name, fearing retaliation.
Two ambulances arrived to treat the woman and her husband whose names were not released because the incident was considered a domestic dispute.
The husband was listed in serious but stable condition with stab wounds at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, police said.
The woman was taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Neither police nor neighbors could confirm what started the dispute.
Kennerly was arrested after he contacted police from an undetermined location, police said.
Court records indicate Kennerly has previous domestic violence charges involving his ex-wife.
