OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Louis Blumkin, who helped grow the Nebraska Furniture Mart in Omaha into one of the nation’s largest furniture stores, has died at age 93.

Louis Blumkin helped his mother run the store she founded for decades.

The family sold most of the business to Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway in 1983 but continues to run it.

Buffett told the Omaha World-Herald that Louis Blumkin was a great friend and businessman.

Today, Louis Blumkin’s three sons run the Nebraska Furniture Mart, which has expanded to include a massive store near Kansas City and one under construction near Dallas.

Blumkin served in the Army in World War II and helped liberate prisoners of war. Later he donated money to help pay for genocide and Holocaust studies at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
