Arlington police are still searching for the suspect in a bizarre kidnapping Monday in which a woman was trapped in the trunk of her car.
According to police, the incident began with a traffic dispute on the Georgetown side of the Key Bridge. The victim crossed the bridge into Arlington and was stopped at a traffic light when an armed man got out of a red sport utility vehicle and entered the victim’s car.
Once in the vehicle, the suspect forced the victim to drive around before making her get into the trunk of the car. Once in the trunk, the victim used her cell phone to call her boyfriend, who called police.
The suspect forced the victim to deliver a package to a home, although the location of the house is unknown. The suspect eventually released her unharmed.
Police tracked the victim using her cell phone and located her along Interstate 66.
Arlington police spokesman Steve Gomez described the victim’s account as unusual.
“It’s definitely a strange story,” he said. “Even though it’s a strange story, we have to assume that it happened.”
He added the victim, in several hours of questioning, did not change her story. He said she is from Northern Virginia but does not live in Arlington.
Gomez described the suspect as a muscular black man, approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall. The victim said the suspect covered his face with a mask, Gomez said.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Detective John Donaggio at 703-228-4167.
