BALTIMORE (AP) — Johns Hopkins University says it will use a $7.4 million National Science Foundation grant to help improve Baltimore elementary schools.
The university says the five-year grant is aimed at improving teaching and learning in science, technology, engineering and math, known as STEM education. City and school officials plan to announce the grant Tuesday morning at Arlington Elementary/Middle School.

The partnership will work with 1,600 students in third through fifth grades at nine public schools. University officials say they hope to involve parents, after-school groups and others in STEM education.
Sens. Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin, Reps. Elijah Cummings and John Sarbanes, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Johns Hopkins University president Ronald Daniels are scheduled to attend the announcement.
