A 15-year-old girl was shot and seriously injured while walking her dog on Chicago‘s South Side on Monday.
The teenager, who has not been identified by authorities, was shot in the chest and arm after an unknown assailant opened fire at around 3:40 p.m., the Chicago Police Department told the Washington Examiner. She was rushed to a children’s hospital in critical condition after she collapsed on the sidewalk.
A motive for the shooting has yet to be determined, and investigators are unsure if she was the intended target. No arrests were made at the time of publishing.

The incident follows a spree of violence in the city over the last week.
On Sunday, two officers with the Chicago Police Department were shot, and a suspect was shot during a call for service. Both policemen have since been discharged from a local hospital.
From Thursday to Friday last week, an 8-year-old and five teenagers were shot throughout the Windy City.
The 8-year-old was struck in the knee after an unknown shooter opened fire around 6 p.m. on Thursday, police said. The boy, who was not the intended target, was taken to a local hospital, and his condition has stabilized.
Less than an hour later, two teenage boys, 15 and 16, were shot while walking down a street. Both were expected to survive after being rushed to a medical facility.
Earlier on Thursday, another 16-year-old was getting into his car when he was shot in the heel. A different 16-year-old boy was shot in the thigh in what has been described as a self-inflicted wound.

A 14-year-old girl who suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the abdomen on Friday was the latest minor to be shot throughout the 11-hour time frame. She was listed in fair condition at a local hospital.
The Chicago Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Washington Examiner.
