All patients taken to hospitals after a tour bus crashed through a guardrail on an Interstate 270 sky ramp have been discharged or are in good or fair condition, according to hospital spokeswoman.
The crash killed the bus’ driver, 66-year-old Joseph A. Clabaugh Jr. of Hanover, Pa. The bus was returning to Pennsylvania after a trip to the National Mall and National Zoo in D.C., Maryland State Police said. It’s unknown why the bus left the roadway and plunged down a 45-foot embankment at about 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Helen Rockefeller, 74, and Richard Lake, 77, both of Endicott, N.Y. were taken to Suburban Hospital in critical condition. They were in fair condition Thursday morning, hospital spokeswoman Ronna Borenstein-Levy said. Sally Currie, 47, of Carlisle, Pa., was also in fair condition.
Trina Manetta, 38, of Carlisle, was first taken to Shady Grove Adventist Hospital but was later transported to Suburban. She was in good condition Thursday.
Four children from Carlisle — Emma Currie, 7; Vincent Oliverio, 12; Madison Oliverio, 9; and Riley Oliverio, 11 — were taken to Suburban and have been discharged. Another patient taken to Suburban, Ashok Sonalkar, 71, of Mechanicsburg, is also no longer at the hospital.
Two other children, Donte Manetta, 10, and Dominic Manetta, 11, both of Carlisle, have been discharged from Shady Grove.
The state police and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident.
