NEW KENT, Va. (AP) — Searchers have recovered the body of a man who disappeared after jumping from a boat into the Pamunkey River.

New Kent County sheriff’s chief deputy Joe McLaughlin tells media outlets that the body of William G. Hodges was found Monday morning along the eastern shoreline, about 40 yards from where he was last seen.

The body was taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Richmond to determine the cause of death.

McLaughlin says the 68-year-old Providence Forge man apparently tried to swim to shore after his boat stalled on Sunday.
